This elegant, 21st century St. Louis area residence blends three architectural traditions using brick and stone that appear to have been in place for 100 years. The owners wanted a traditional American home that would also reflect English Gothic and French Country styles.
Spencer Brickwork achieved the desired look for the exterior by combining 84 tons of Wisconsin Eden limestone with 33,000 red and gray adobe brick salvaged and hand-picked from old local buildings slotted for the wrecking ball. Surrounded by stone columns and walls, the raised stone porch and 2-1/2 story stone turret highlight the front elevation. At the top of the turret is the master bedroom balcony, which features three arches that frame a sweeping view of the Missouri River valley. The masonry contract for the 6146 square foot home was over $250,000.
