The most notable project The Gallegos Corporation (TGC) has been a part of in 2013 is the Bill Snyder Family Stadium – Phase 2 (Expansion) at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. The expansion was designed by AECOM Technical Services and the contractors were Mortenson / GE Johnson, a joint venture.
Demolition of the existing press box began at the end of the 2012 football season and the stadium reopened for the start of the 2013 football season. The Gallegos crews, peaking at 40 craftsmen, worked exceptionally long hours to meet the deadline, at one point working 27 days straight. TGC Project Superintendent Ben Spillner said “Everyone on this job went above and beyond expectations. They were a tremendous team of guys; I just can’t say enough about how hard they worked.” Steve Kalabany, Senior Project Manager, agreed with the sentiments by stating “I could not have asked for a better crew, Ben really pushed the job.”
TGC crews completed 80,000 square feet of stone work and installed 2,000 pieces of Cast Stone in 7 months, 75% percent of the work being completed in the last 4 months. Originally designed as a stone and precast façade, but was switched to cast stone. Already under contract for the stone veneer, TGC, their cast stone supplier and anchor engineer were instrumental in assisting AECOM and Mortenson / GE Johnson in designing and engineering the cast stone changes. Some of the precast was changed to stone to further reduce costs and speed up design, fabrication and installation time.
The Gallegos Corporation was founded in 1970 by Gerald G. Gallegos as a specialty stone/ masonry company. Since that time, Gallegos has expanded its operations and specializes in distinctive residential and commercial stone/masonry, plaster/stucco, concrete, marble/granite work and stone sales.
