The Fedor Memorial was a tribute to my father, a lifelong mason contractor of 50 years, and my mother. This is hand carved from 4 tons of Cleveland Quarry Sandstone. From the larger blocks, I carved smaller stones to look like they were laid in the wall. Larger blocks were also used to carve the masonry tools, which were not applied. It measures 8' wide by almost 6' tall. The story it tells is how their lives were cut short by the unfinished wall. Everything on it is of importance to their lives, from the five masonry tools, on the smaller pier, is a mortar board with mortar and his trowel and hammer, to the taller pier that has his level and brush to his folding ruler resting on the unfinished wall. The tulips represent their five children and the leaves on the vines are for the grandchildren they left behind. My father loved 19 century architecture so the chiseling on the stones was to represent that same period. I am a second generation mason contractor that does custom masonry and I like to include hand carved stone into our projects. This project was done to tell the story of family and business my parents loved so much.
