More than 50 Cemex employees are delivering 2000 cu. yd. of concrete each day, working an average of 20 hrs. a day, 6 days a week, to complete the CityCenter project.
Usually, developments like this are built in stages, but the primary contractor, Perini Building Co.'s contract requires all construction to proceed at the same time to finish in time for the grand opening.
Cemex's on-site batch plant, with a 300 cu yd / hr capacity, provides most of the concrete. Its other plants in the area supply the rest. During peak hours, 40-60 trucks can be delivering concrete to the site, where they pour columns, sitework, and up to four to six high rise decks at a time.
The producer's Quality Control department developed more than 60 mix designs for CityCenter. Any number of these mixes are being poured at a given time, and their strength and pumpabilty have to be consistent to keep the low volume, high pressure concrete pumps moving.
