The Ave Maria Oratory at Ave Maria University represented a mixture of opportunities, challenges, and innovation for Falcon Contractors, Naples, Fla. The structure's New Mexico Travertine and Arriscraft stone blend together to form a true work of art. Falcon was instrumental in the final design and development of windows, arches, and doorways, as only basic designs existed. The masonry contractor also designed and developed a system to hang the stone in horizontal ceiling applications. Due to problems with long arch pieces and their damage during transport, the masons pinned and fabricated pieces onsite to maintain the job schedule and the building's integrity. Their experience on this project has inspired Falcon's masons to develop new techniques. “We learned the company is adaptable and capable on all challenging projects - no matter the size,” says Brett Turley, Falcon's vice president of special operations.
