More than 8000 stone fabricators, installers, quarriers, contractors, architects, interior designers, builders, distributors, and retailers will convene in Las Vegas, Oct. 17 - 20, for the industry's annual show and conference. The event will be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
The trade show will feature more than 250 exhibitors displaying the latest in stone machinery, products, tools, accessories, services, and technology. Nearly 70 product categories will be available for attendees to evaluate, including cleaning/maintenance, counter-tops, grout, hand and power tools, software, adhesives and sealants, material handling equipment, mortar, and safety equipment. The show floor encompasses about 125,000 sq ft.
Live “how to” demonstrations will be presented on each of the three show days. The 60-minute programs will cover some of the industry's most challenging stone installation techniques: hand-chiseled countertop edging, using waterjet technology for countertop and floor installation, measuring and installing counter-tops, and sealing tile and natural stone.
A special feature debuting at the 2007 show is the New Product Pavilion. Stone professionals will have the opportunity for a first look at some of the new products and accessories being introduced to the industry. Some of these products are featured in the “New Product Pavilion” section of this article.
The show floor will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 and 19, and 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Oct 20.
The technical conference includes 44 sessions, including nine 3-hour workshops on the day before the show opens (Oct. 17), and 35 75-minute programs spread across the other three days. The in-depth, practical, problem solving educational program is divided into five tracks: Business Management, Building/Design, Fabrication/ Installation, Sales/Marketing, and Care/Maintenance/Restoration. Abstracts of sessions of particular interest to the masonry contractor are presented in the “Conference Program” section below.
Two Networking Roundtables hosted by experts in business, marketing, design, fabrication, and installation will provide an idea-exchange forum and problem solving clinic. The sessions, open to all conference registrants who sign up for the events, will be held Oct. 18 at noon and Oct. 19 at 7:00 a.m.
Two keynote speakers will deliver their thoughts on important industry topics.
Al Bates, Ph.D., is chairman, president, and founder of the Profit Planning Group, a research and executive education firm that specializes in helping businesses maximize profits. He will discuss “The New Drivers of Profitability - How to Make More Money on Every Job and Taking Control of Your Business.”
“A to Z in Financial Management and Family Owned Business Management/Succession Planning” will be delivered by Bart Basi, Ph.D., CPA/attorney. He is the founder of The Center for Financial, Legal & Tax Planning.
