Can alcohol be used as an antifreeze in mortar or grout to prevent freezing during cold weather?
Only a significant quantity of alcohol would prevent mortar or grout from freezing. If enough alcohol is used to raise the mortar's freezing temperature, it would affect both the compressive strength and the bond strength of the mortar or grout. For this and other reasons, most architectural specifications and references prohibit the use of any antifreeze compounds in mortars or grouts.
