I have heard that adding latex to concrete increases the bond in concrete patching mortars. Can latex be added to tuckpointing mortar to increase the bond and improve performance?

Latex additives are added to mortar to increase bond. The mortars, however, can be difficult to work with. Also, mortars made with latex admixtures are very difficult to clean off the face of the units.

A properly mixed and prehydrated Type N mortar that is compacted in layers generally performs extremely well. I do not recommend using latex modified mortars for tuckpointing masonry walls.
