Jeff Erdly’s masonry restoration business was five-years old when its turning point occurred in 1990 while he was attending an industry symposium on water in exterior building walls sponsored by ASTM. Erdly took what he learned and began to change the focus of Masonry Preservation Services Inc. (MPS), Berwick, Pa.

He built relationships with leading design professionals and forensic engineers, some of whom he had met at the symposium. He began procuring work through strategic alliances with these associates and by developing long-term business with repeat customers. And he became active in ASTM and was instrumental in the formation of a committee in 1997 to develop a standard for inspecting building facades.
