Among the many exciting competitions taking place during the World of Masonry/World of Concrete will be the 3rd annual Telehandler Skills Challenge, sponsored this year by Pettibone. The material handling equipment manufacturer, based in Baraga, Mich., will put operators through their paces to find the best in the country.
Contestants will have their choice of two types of 8000-lb telehandlers: the Extendo Series with an extending boom, and the Traverse Series with a transfer boom. Operators will navigate their vehicles through a closed course designed to represent an actual jobsite.
They will have the opportunity to demonstrate precise driving skills, accurate lifting and placing, overall productivity, and observance of safety procedures. Scoring will be based on time, accuracy, and safety. The top driver will win an all-terrain vehicle.
Interested drivers must be registered for the World of Masonry/ World of Concrete and provide proof of their telehandler training. Pettibone will sponsor operator's training sessions on Monday, Jan. 21, and Friday, Jan. 25, for those who would like to earn their telehandler's license and OSHA certification onsite. The sessions will consist of a half-day classroom session, followed by hands-on training with the machines. Sessions are limited to 20 people, so drivers are encouraged to reserve their spots early.
There will be three rounds of the skills competition. Starting at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, operators will compete for the four semi-finalist spots. On Wednesday, beginning at 9:00 a.m., the number will be narrowed down to two finalists. The concluding round begins at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday to determine the winner.
The entry deadline is December 21, 2007.
This event is part of MASONRY CONSTRUCTION magazine's Masons' Challenge series of events, bringing together the industry's top craftsmen to compete in activities relative to their trade.
