By the end of 1990, 130 new buildings, most of them masonry, were built at Fort Drum Army Base. After 3 years of construction, the $1.3 billion project-the largest masonry job in the United States-came in on schedule. The masonry work required more than 4.3 million concrete masonry units and 6 million brick. It wasn't easy though. Supplying and controlling so much material created problems.
