The Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) brought the country’s best journeyman masons and masonry apprentices together, once again, to compete in the renowned Fastest Trowel on the Block competition and Masonry Skills Challenge. Arcadio Armenta and tender, Guadalupe Aragon, of Sutter Masonry Inc. in El Mirage, Ariz., won first place for Fastest Trowel on the Block, taking home $8,000 and prizes. Alvaro Landaverde, also from Sutter Masonry, won second place and Irvin Willoughby of Pascal Robertson Masonry in Sorrento, Fla., placed third. Top honors in the Masonry Skills Challenge went to Daniel Furr of Koontz Masonry, Lexington, N.C. (First Year); Zackary Zuidema of Jimmy’z Masonry, Crystal Lake, Ill. (Second Year); and Kelton McGee, of McGee Brothers Co., Monroe, N.C. (Third Year).
