Two new retaining wall mannuals will be published soon.

In late summer or early fall, the Federal Highway Administration will update its 2001 manual, “Mechanically Stabilized Earth Walls and Reinforced Soil Slopes.” Mechanically stabilized earth walls are generally higher retaining walls, using geotextile or geogrid reinforcement. The new manual will include the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) approach and new applications for MSE walls, such as shored and stable feature systems.

The third edition of the National Concrete Masonry Association's Design Manual for Segmental Retaining Walls and SRWall 4.0 software will also be released this summer. New content includes offset surcharges, rectangular distribution of dynamic load, and internal compound stability analysis. (See page 23 for more details.)
