Contractors, producers, and public officials from around the world will gather in Las Vegas on March 11–15 for CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2008. The show and conference, which is held every three years, is expected to attract 125,000 visitors.

The massive show will feature about 2000 exhibitors spread across 2.1 million net sq ft of space (equivalent to 48 acres) in the three halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center and several outside lots. To minimize walking and maximize time while checking out the show, the exhibits are divided into “product concentration areas,” such as concrete, earthmoving machinery and attachments, trucks, utilities, and lifting equipment. The educational program will include more than 120 sessions, each 90-min long. Case studies, industry trends, and “how to” programs will be offered in 10 subject tracks: aggregates, equipment management, asphalt, concrete, construction project management, earthmoving, environmental/recycling, safety, personal development, and management.

In addition to these regular programs, the new Innovation and Solutions Center on the show floor will offer free programs detailing solutions to current and future design applications, along with new research and development relating to the industry.

Safety demonstration

One of the new features at the 2008 show is the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) Safety Zone, which covers 8000 sq ft in the West Blue Lot. The 15-min show will illustrate the dangers of not using a harness in boom type aerial work platforms, and the correct way to wear the safety device. The program will run at regular intervals throughout each day and will incorporate a range of access equipment from exhibiting IPAF members.

The demonstration is part of the group's “Click It!” safety campaign, which encourages users of boom type platforms to wear a full body harness with a short lanyard attached to a suitable anchor point.

International gathering spot

CONEXPO-CON/AGG is sponsored by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association, and Associated General Contractors of America.
