Building on a strong foundation of service to the Midwest construction industry, Fredrikson & Byron recently launched a Construction Group to help clients navigate the current challenges of the construction industry.

The newly-formed Construction Group blends the expertise of 25-plus attorneys to provide clients with a full range of services, including drafting and negotiating construction contracts and design agreements, mechanic's liens, and construction mediation, arbitration, and litigation, to name a few. The group also draws upon broad firm resources to seamlessly support other construction-related needs such as real estate, bankruptcy and workouts, employment and labor, intellectual property protection, immigration, corporate, and finance.

According to Construction Group Chair Joseph Springer, a key advantage of the group is that "our construction attorneys are not only skilled dealmakers, but also strong litigators who protect their clients when construction projects go off-course. Working in both areas is a competitive advantage, because it helps our attorneys see all sides of construction-related issues - allowing us to structure deals that minimize the potential for future disputes."

Local construction law attorney John Patterson recently joined Fredrikson & Byron, bringing 27 years of construction law expertise to the group. In addition to his construction law practice, John has served as a mediator or arbitrator in more than 100 cases primarily in the areas of construction, general commercial litigation, and real estate. John is a member of the American Arbitration Association's panel of construction arbitrators.

Members of the Construction Group represent developers, contractors, subcontractors, specialty contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, public and private owners, landlords, lenders, and design professionals. More information about the group can be found at
