Next week we’ll have the opportunity to mingle with some of the most influential folks who can best help our industry. And fortunately for the masonry industry, we have a strong presence. The 2013 CONSTRUCT show takes September 24-27, at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee USA.
From my perspective, Construct hosts the commercial construction industry’s only real contact between the architects who actually detail the commercial construction projects. The show has a legacy of helping facilitate efficiencies between product manufacturers and the designers who use their products. A quick look at the Education Course offerings shows just how closely these groups work together. Participants gain insights on the real working of the specification development process. And we all know, if it’s in the spec, it’s on the job.
To expand on the continuing education theme of the 2013 CSI Annual Convention and CONSTRUCT Show, SPEC MIX, Inc. has partnered with us to host the first-ever “Live Learning Area” during exhibit hours. Designed to offer attendees and AIA members a means to earn learning credits, SPEC MIX technical representatives will give 60 minute, hands-on, learning demonstrations that illustrate the real factors that can impact the quality, compressive and bond strength, as well as consistency of colored masonry mortar. Each session will teach the audience how to select and specify the correct mortar based on building design and masonry units selection. This will be followed by a live demonstration of the key steps for the installation of masonry units with mortar, as taught by skilled masons. Although the course is free and open to all CONSTRUCT participants, upon completing the course all AIA registered members will be awarded 1 Learning Unit that also meets the Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) criteria.
This is not the first time masonry has taken a lead position at Construct. Several years ago, the International Masonry Institute coordinated a highly successful demonstration at the Chicago venue. Response was strong from attendees, as we hope these AIA learning sessions will be.
Just as impressive, Spec Mix is also bringing a taste of Masonry Madness to Construct by holding a Bricklayer 500 Regional event on Friday July 27 in the parking lot just across the street from the Convention Center.
You can still register for Construct at www.constructshow.com, where the show and event information is posted. Even if you can’t make it to Music City, how about checking with your local architect to see if they are attending. Ask them to stop by any of these masonry industry suppliers who will be exhibiting:
