For the second year in a row, North Carolina claimed the top spot at the SPECMIX Bricklayer 500, held during the World of Masonry/World of Concrete in Las Vegas. Tyke Mangum of McGee Brothers won the contest with an official count of 890 brick laid in one hour. Garrett Hood of McGee Bothers, who won the 2008 contest, also from McGee Brothers, finished second. Celebrating the victory (from left) are Garrett Hood, Megan Hood, Kevin Hallman (tender for Hood), Tyke Mangum, Courtney Mangum, and Dan Hallman (tender for Mangum). In addition to other prizes, Mangum won $5000 and a 2009 Ford F-250 4x4 pickup.
