The Forum is an industry networking event. While the content provided in the presentation may be technical in nature, the Forum is focused on idea exchange. The setting, topic selection and presentations are designed to provide the attendees a unique opportunity to share concerns and opportunities on current topics affecting the residential concrete construction industry.

This year’s topic is: “Building to a Higher Standard: Resilience in Residential Construction”

In the last year, public awareness of the safety and economic return from investing in concrete homes and structures has been raised. The Portland Cement Association and others have combined efforts to increase public awareness of the importance of resilient structures.

How big is the resilient residential construction market?

Jonathan Smoke, Hanley Wood Chief Economist will provide an estimate on this dynamic new residential market segment. Using data generated by key Metrostudy studies of key metropolitan areas. Attendees will learn the size and location of the residential marketplace with the greatest opportunity for resilient construction techniques. The market research describes current market conditions in states that have been identified as areas of the greatest risk of damage due to natural disasters such as high wind loads and severe seismic activity.

Donn Thompson from the Portland Cement Association will describe current industry efforts aimed at increasing the marketing opportunities for resilient concrete housing options. Thompson will also discuss the impact that the Federal Alliance for Safe Housing has had in helping to grow homeowner awareness of housing systems that mitigate loss from natural disasters.
